RELAXED FAMILY GARDEN
This compact north-facing garden had to cater for the whole family with an area for outdoor dining and space for the children to play. The planting needed to be easy to maintain, have good year-round interest, with plants chosen to support and encourage birds and wildlife.
The simple layout provides the family with a paved dining terrace, which is accessed via a path that dissects the herbaceous border. The paving has been upgraded from concrete slabs to sandstone paving in warm colours to complement the house brick. Raised beds, constructed from new wooden sleepers, surround the dining area and the lawn and provide extra planting space that is easy to manage. The same sleepers form a retaining step creating two levels, removing the gentle slope towards the house. A covered arbour seat is positioned to catch the sun throughout the day.
