WOODLAND COMMUNITY GARDEN

Originally an overgrown area of weeds and brambles, this space has been transformed into a community garden for those seeking peace and quiet reflection. Set in a tranquil, secluded spot on the edge of the village, the natural beauty of the woodland setting has a calming quality and the simple, unobtrusive design sits comfortably in the space.

Natural materials have been used throughout. Constructed from oak sleepers, the raised beds form the main communal seating space with wooden benches and an enclosed arbour seat. Self-binding gravel has been used for the path surfaces, as well as natural stone paving.

Naturalistic, woodland planting combining ferns, grasses and perennials soften the hard landscaping and, in the spring, native bulbs, such as wild daffodils and English bluebells, extend the season of interest. Texture, colour and scent play a key role, with plants selected to add to the ambience of the garden, as well as encouraging wildlife. The overall effect is to relax the senses and encourage a feeling of peace and calm.
